Hidden Causes and Guidelines for Infertility

Infertility is the most sensitive health issue facing most couples in today's world. There are countless causes and responsible factors. About 2 out of 10 couples in metro cities are suffering from the problem of infertility. There are sequentially four major causes of Infertility: Stress, Hormonal Imbalance (mostly in females), Irregular Lifestyle and Diet. The most responsible and important cause to be highlighted is STRESS. Stress develops unnecessarily negative hormones such as cortisol which curbs the functions of the body's major systems including reproductive system and hampers the formation of healthy qualitative eggs in females and simultaneously decreases the qualitative and quantitative sperm output in males causing infertility problems. Hormonal imbalance mainly in females contributes about 75 percent to infertility. The explanation behind it is hyperestrogenism (excessive amount of oestrogenic activity in the body) which ends up in low levels of FSH and LH and eventually low levels of progesterone leading to infertility. Progesterone imbalances cause increased risk of pregnancy, increased symptoms of PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome), Depression, Thyroid Dysfunction, Fibrocystic Breasts, Gain of weight, Irregular Menstrual Period. The third causative factor is the irregular lifestyle, which in a considerable way often affects the physical and mental plane of the body. For example, Abnormal Sleep patterns are the most common type of irregular lifestyle. The same portion of the brain that controls sleep-wake hormones, i.e. melatonin and cortisol, also induces a regular release of reproductive hormones in both men and women. The lack of adequate sleep directly impedes the development of reproductive hormones resulting in infertility. Last but most importantly the contributing factor is Diet. Eating good nutritious foods enhances fertility. Many foods are helpful for pregnancy because they improve immunity, progesterone levels and lead to improving metabolism which in effect improves the chances of fertility. Conclusively, too many factors are responsible for causing problems with Infertility, but if they are highlighted and cared for with awareness and adequate steps taken to fill the loopholes, the scenario of fertility can be altered towards positive change.
